Energy saving: a shared responsibility

Due to the rising gas and electricity prices, more and more entrepreneurs and residents are becoming aware of their energy consumption. In businesses, we regularly see 'ghost consumption'. Ghost consumption is the energy used by appliances when they are not in use (Source: Eneco). Ghost consumption can often be identified through an energy scan. It is a waste of energy and money. This does not involve refrigeration units, but for example, ventilation systems, lighting and other equipment that are unnecessarily switched on.

In practice, we often see that phantom loads arise because staff are not aware of them. However, we also frequently encounter situations where they are simply forgotten. For example, if you have an air conditioning or ventilation system that consumes a lot of electricity, or if the heating is left on all night, the costs can quickly mount up, particularly given current energy prices.

This is why it is advisable to raise the subject of energy saving within the company and to work on it collectively. Too little attention is currently paid to energy saving in companies. Energy saving is not an individual responsibility within the company, but must be achieved through a joint effort. Changes do not need to be significant, but they must be communicated to the staff. If employees become aware of energy saving at work, there is a high probability that they will also implement it at home. This brings a double benefit.

To avoid straying from the essence of this blog, we recommend bringing up the topic of energy saving within your company or organisation and involving employees. For example, don't just let the last person leaving the company close the door, but also check that all lighting, computers, machines, heating and other electrical equipment are switched off. This may seem like a small action, but it can have significant benefits.
