In our previous blog, we discussed the importance of a good crimping tool. However, aside from having the right tools, it is also of great importance to pay attention to the connectors being used and how they are combined.
There are various connectors available on the market that can be used for solar panels. These connectors are available in different sizes and brands. Some connectors from different brands look similar and also fit together, such as Amphenol and MC4 connectors. However, it is important to realise that even if they look the same, they are not always compatible. Using incompatible connectors can lead to problems such as poor connections or even dangerous situations. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that all connectors in an installation are from the same manufacturer and are compatible with each other.
With new installations – fitted by reputable installers – this is often not a problem. However, with older installations, especially those from 10 years ago, it is much more common for different brands of connectors to be used. It is therefore of great importance to be alert to this, particularly if you are planning to take over someone else's installation, for example. This is important for the reliability and safety of your installation.
