As a company, saving energy is not only good for the environment, but also for your wallet. During our efforts to save energy in companies, we have noticed that energy consumption after closing time is often overlooked. In this blog, we regularly discuss topics that require attention in the field of energy saving. Today, we would like to focus on the energy consumption of façade advertising and other (electrical) promotional devices outside of opening and working hours.
Many companies leave devices, such as lighting or display screens, switched on to promote themselves. This can happen, for example, to illuminate the company name on the facade or to show a promotional video on a screen. This is particularly common in businesses located on busy roads, where there is a lot of traffic. It is understandable that a company would want to stand out after closing hours through facade advertising or screens from a marketing perspective.
Business premises located on busy roads may have a greater need to keep promotional devices switched on. However, we also regularly encounter this happening at remote business parks and in enclosed shopping centres. In these types of areas, it is often questionable whether potential customers visit the area during night hours. In these situations, it is advisable to control the activation of electrical appliances with a timer switch, so that the equipment is switched on and off at set times.
Another point of attention concerns the facade advertisements that are visible everywhere these days. Those installed nowadays are usually fitted with LED lighting, but we still regularly come across fluorescent tube lighting. These are usually hidden behind the plastic advertising board. It is a good idea to check within your own business what kind of lighting is hidden behind the shop sign or advertisement. Savings can already be made here.
By mapping and reducing energy consumption after closing hours, businesses can not only contribute to a more sustainable world but also save costs. By examining and making adjustments to the use of lighting and advertising, you can achieve monthly savings.
